The central government has launched a new scheme named as “Kissan Urja Suraksha and Uthasthan Maha-Abhiyaan (KUSUM) Yojana” which will help you generate income by setting up solar panels. The scheme has three phases which are explained in below in detail-

In Phase A there is an establishment of a Decentralized Ground Mounted Connected Renewal Electricity Plant. In Phase B there is an establishment of “Stand Alone Solar Power – Grid Agricultural Pumps. While, in Phase C there is an establishment of Solarization Of Grid Connected Agricultural Pumps.

   Phase A

  • In November last year, the release issued by PIB stated that the scope has been expanded for PART-A by including farmers owned by pasture and marshy land.
  • Besides, fines have been imposed on the reduction in production removed by farmers for ease of implementation.
  • Apart from barren, fallow, and agricultural land, solar power plants can also be set up on farmers’ pasture and marshland.

To help small farmers, solar power projects of less than 500 kW may be allowed by states based on techno-commercial viability. The selected organizations i.e., RGP and Solar Electricity have been issued a Letter of Award which will be active for 12 months from the date of issuing.

Phase B

  • The MNRE will keep service charges up to 33% upon the activities performed by IIC.
  • The service charges for ministry activities after the date of issue of LOA can be up to 50%.

Phase C

  • The ministry will use up to 33% of the service tax of the activities performed by IIC.
  • The agencies are required to sign the agreement to be a part of the scheme.
  • With the help of activities undertaken in Phase C, the government is trying to help farmers who are owing grid connected pumps in the solarization of their pumps.
  • The farmers will also be equipped with solar panels as well which will not only help them in agricultural activities to be performed using the solar energy but also will help them in selling the generated solar power which will, in turn, boost their finances.
