Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Friday said its renewable energy arm had ordered the establishment of a 1.5 gigawatt (GW) solar plant in Riyadh province, Saudi Arabia.
The company also added that the project will be the largest solar plant in Saudi Arabia when a power purchase agreement is signed and is also one of the largest plants in the world.
The order came from ACWA Power and Water and Electricity Holding Company – a company owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) – the company said in a statement.
It added that the project has an area of 30.8 square kilometers available to install 1.5 GW PV solar modules with a single axial tracker and inverters.
“L&T also works with potential solutions related to hydrogen and carbon capture technology and storage technologies. Ensuring this project is a milestone in our path to clean and green energy to combat the climate crisis the country is facing,” said S N Subrahmanyam, chief executive officer, and managing director, L&T.
According to a press release, the project was awarded to PIF as part of Saudi Arabia’s National Energy Renewable Energy Program.
